5 questions to Ben Maher

  |   ,

Discipline: Jumping
Nation: Great Britain
Date of Birth: 30/01/1983

Your first thought in the morning?
Damn that alarm clock!  I like to have all my horses ridden in the morning and sometimes that means being on the first horse at about 7.00 am.  I am sure my grooms say the same thing!

Your favorite expression?
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.  It is true for anything in life but definitely for riding horses.

Do you have any special distinctive/compulsive habits during competitions?
I am very focused going into any competition and always want to win.  I don’t think I have any special habits, but I do like everything organised and on time with no unexpected interruptions.

What advice would you give to yourself?
Work hard at school!  I did not listen to that piece of advice from my parents and left school as soon as I could.  It is the same advice that I would give any young, aspiring rider today.

Something you’d really like to do if you had enough time?
Build my own house –  I love designing bits and pieces and are currently refitting out new offices at home in the UK. It is more convenient to have the disruption of the building work whilst all the horses are away in Florida, so I have become a builder by skype, email and the internet!
