The Cinderella story of the legendary jumper Snowman who Harry deLeyer bought for $80, saving him from slaughter, charmed audiences at its New York premier at the Hamptons International Film Festival. With the odds against them, Harry and Snowman went on to break show jumping records and thrill crowds, becoming household names in the late 1950’s. The heart-warming documentary from Ron Davis portrays not only the incredible bond between them but how Snowman was a beloved part of the whole family. It is hard to imagine a top show jumper who also goes swimming with all the children, and pulls them behind him on skis in the snow. Harry deLeyer even appeared on the Dick Cavett show. With incredible vintage footage the documentary follows Harry’s life from a Dutch immigrant after World War II to the “Galloping Grandfather,” his triumphs and heartbreaks, and his total dedication to horsemanship. Now in his 80’s he was on hand with his family to celebrate the premiere.
