Men and Horses in the AndesCulture
The symbiotic relationship between man and horse is truly extremely intense during over ten hours’ trekking per day over a full week. When the sun slips below the horizon, the shadows lengthen, projecting onto the ground a picture of an age-old bond: figures with two arms and four legs, all of them resembling centaurs until they finally dismount. Up here, where the altitude seems to crush everything, where the sun burns and where both the air and the silence are heavy, the only speed that counts is that of slowness, and the only useful difficulty is the need to show patience.
